Vught terror unit to be closed

The special terrorism unit at Vught prison is to be closed and the remaining prisoners transferred to the special unit in Rotterdam, the justice ministry said on Friday.

Between 2006 and 2010 just 30 people were held at one of the two units, meaning there is considerable overcapacity, junior justice minister Fred Teeven said.
The ministry is also introducing an annual check to see if people convicted of terrorism offences have become less radical. If so, they may be eligible for a place in mainstream prisons.
