Shrimp boats go on strike in protest at low prices

Some 80 Netherlands-based shrimp boats are expected to stop work from Tuesday in protest at falling prices.

The price of a kilo of shrimp has recently fallen from €1.57 to €1.29, making it impossible to earn a living, shrimp fishermen told Nos radio.
The low prices follow a ruling by the anti-cartel body NMa which banned the shrimpers from fixing prices. They now hope that a strike will lead to a shortage of shrimp and push prices up again.
