Satellite navigation system maker TomTom is to amend licensing agreements for the use of data gathered from in-car systems to stop them being used to place speed traps, CEO Harold Goddijn said in a video statement.

The AD reported on Wednesday that satnav information is used by half the country’s police forces to decide where to place speed traps.
‘We are actively promoting the use of this information because we believe we can help make roads safer and less congested,’ Goddijn said.
However, having now realised that the police are using the information to place speed cameras, action would be taken, he said. ‘We don’t like that because our customers don’t like it and we will prevent that kind of usage of our data in the future.’
