The highest percentages of households which rely on a minimum income for more than four years are found in Amsterdam, Rotterdam and The Hague, according to new figures from the national statistics office CBS.

Some 6.5% of Amsterdam households are long-term on the poverty line. Rotterdam is in second place with 5.8%.
The CBS says one in 10 Amsterdam and Rotterdam children grow up in a household where the family income is considered low, compared with 3% in the Netherlands as a whole.
The CBS does not state what it means by low income, but the poverty threshold in the Netherlands is put by European statistics office Eurostat at an income of €11,300 a year.
