Minister asked for assurances on redundancy law rumours
Thursday 14 April 2011
Christian Democrat MPs have asked social affairs minister Henk Kamp to talk to employers and unions to remove misunderstandings about the way redundancy laws are being implemented, news agency ANP reports.
The two biggest union federations, FNV and CNV, say more and more employers are replacing staff on permanent contracts with people on flexible or freelance contracts.
Kamp has admitted that UWV job agencies, which have to approve most redundancies, do sometimes allow companies to replace staff with people on flexible contracts. However, this is allowed by law, Kamp said.
The minister is planning to harmonise the way this measure is being put into effect because there are some regional differences, news agency ANP reported.
The minority government has pledged not to amend redundancy law - in a concession made to its alliance partner, the anti-Islam PVV.
