Japan appeal raises €6m

The Red Cross appeal for the victims of the earthquake and tsunami in Japan raised €6m, the organisation said on Thursday.

The money was raised during the national action day on Wednesday when people could make donations by calling a special telephone number and from a benefit concert in the Amsterdam Arena in the evening.
The evening also included a friendly football match between Ajax and the top Japanese club Shimizu S-Pulse. Ajax won 4-0.
The benefit dinner in Rotterdam with six top chefs preparing a special meal raised €27,500.
The special bank account number 6868 is open for further donations until the end of April.
