Dutch working day is short in OECD terms

The Netherlands has one of the shortest working days in the 34-member OECD, according to the Paris-based organisation’s latest report on social trends.

The Dutch do an average of 7.5 hours in paid and unpaid work a day, putting them in fifth place in the OECD ranking.
In terms of paid work, the Dutch work an average 231 minutes a day, with just the Belgians and Danes working less. The Dutch spend 219 minutes a day on household chores and shopping.
But at the same time, 75.8% of the population is employed in the Netherlands, much higher than the OECD average of 66.1%, and the fourth highest in the OECD, the figures show.
The Portuguese are the hardest-working Europeans, and Mexicans the hardest-working OECD members.
