Divisions over who should be next central bank chairman

The central bank and government are still divided about who should replace president Nout Wellink when he stands down after two terms in July, the Financieele Dagblad reports.

The bank’s favourite choice and inside candidate Lex Hoogduin is not supported by The Hague, the paper says, quoting anonymous sources.
CDA supporter Jeroen Kremers (RBS Nederland) and VVD member Kees van Dijkhuizen (CFO NIBC) have also been mentioned as possible choices but the central bank wants someone with more monetary experience. Hoogduin is not thought to be a member of a political party.
The fact that Ronald Gerritse, new chairman of the financial services sector regulator AFM, is a Labour man may also be giving a party political tint to the selection process, the paper says.
Another argument against Hoogduin is that as a bank insider he may not be able to generate the culture change the government is hoping for.
