Working minors to pay for unemployed parents

Youngsters aged 16 and 17 who live with parents claiming welfare benefits will have to pay towards their family’s upkeep if they earn more than €413 a month, according to new draft legislation, the Volkskrant reports.

The social affairs ministry wants to cut welfare benefits to families with children who have an income. Plans to stop welfare for parents who live with adult children in work have already leaked out.
Families with youngsters who earn more than €1,240 a quarter already lose their right to child benefits.
The minimum wage for a 17-year-old is €562,65 or just under €26 a day
