Utrecht pulls plug on top women's football team
Wednesday 09 March 2011
Utrecht FC is disbanding its women’s premier division team, in line with earlier decisions by AZ and Willem II.
Financial uncertainties are the main reason to pull the plug on the women’s team, the club said. Last year, the Utrecht team won the KNVB Cup for women and now lies in fifth place.
There are currently eight clubs in the women’s league and the football association says a number of other clubs have expressed an interest in joining in.
