Studying not the family is main reason women don’t work

The most common reason currently given by young women for not working is that they are still studying, the national statistics office CBS said on Monday.

Ten years ago, most women without a job used family responsibilities as the main justification.
Last year, some 318,000 women did not work because they were taking care of their family, down from 755,000 in 2000.
The Dutch working population is around 11 million, of whom 1.8 million women and one million men say they are not looking for a job.
