Speeding margin for error to be cut

The margin for error which the police use when fining motorists who break the speed limit should be reduced, transport minister Melanie Schultz van Haegen told MPs on Wednesday.

There have been concerns that when the 130 kph speed limit comes into effect, motorists will be able to drive up to 139 kph without being fined because of the margin.
The minister, who declined to give a target figure, said she was also looking into improved equipment for photographing and tracking speeding motorists.
The minister has earmarked eight roads for an experimental higher speed limit.
