Online shopping on the rise

The Dutch spent €8.2bn buying goods and services online last year, up 11% on 2009, according to sector association Thuiswinkel.org.

But while the number of sales per customer rose 20% to 7.4, average spending was down as music downloads and software apps rose in popularity.
Travel still accounts for the biggest share of online spending at €3.5bn. In total, 9.2 million people – almost half the population – have now bought something online, the organisation said.
