One in four nod off during the day

Some 25% of the population fall asleep during meetings, while watching tv, while driving or at some other point during the day, according to search for the national sleep institute.

Neurologist and organisation chairman Hans Hamburger told the Telegraaf the results are shocking but in line with other international studies.
In particular, the risk of traffic accidents because of overtiredness needs to be tackled, Hamburger told the paper.
‘Every time I hear about an accident, I am pretty sure that it was due to lack of sleep,’ he said. ‘But there is enough medication and therapy to solve sleeping problems.’
The research, which will be formally published on March 26, also shows that the Dutch would like an average of 8.2 hours sleep a night but only manage 7.1 hours.
