More people escape while on psychiatric prison leave

In total, 41 people undergoing treated in psychiatric prisons (tbs) escaped while on leave last year, almost double the 2009 figure, the Telegraaf reports on Monday.

The escapes led to a number of incidents, the paper says. A 61-year-old woman was stabbed in a Hema store by a man who was on supervised leave and in Venray, a 38-year-old man carried out an armed robbery on a supermarket.
Junior justice minister Fred Teeven has already pledged to reduce the number of escapes from tbs prisons. Since the beginning of 2011 prisoners who do run off lose their leave privileges for one year, according to news agency ANP.
