Unemployed Dutch nationals should do the jobs currently being done by migrants working for less than the minimum wage or without a contract altogether, social affairs minister Henk Kamp says in Thursday’s AD.

Kamp says some 500,000 people in the Netherlands are claiming benefits but are capable of working, news agency ANP quotes him as telling the paper.
In total, 25% of people aged 20 to 65 do not have a paid job. ‘If we have so much untapped potential and such a tight jobs market, then we should be looking at the capacity we have here, rather than abroad,’ Kamp said.
‘We can give work permits to people from outside the EU, but we can also not give them,’ ANP quoted him as saying.
