Beaver run over shortly after being released into the wild

A beaver, released into the River Aa in Drenthe on Monday as part of efforts to reintroduce beavers to the Netherlands, was run over shortly afterwards, news agency ANP reports.

The beaver, imported from Belgium, was killed on the A28 highway.
Some 18 beavers have been released in the Groningen Drenthe border area over the past few years and several have successfully bred, according to local nature body Groninger Landschap.
