The Hague acts on excessive executive pay

The Hague city council is to reduce grants to organisations which pay their directors more than the standard €188,000.

In 2009, 29 workers at 16 different council-funded institutions earned more than the prime minister’s salary – the standard for public sector pay.
According to the Financieele Dagblad, nationwide some 500 institutions pay staff more than the official ceiling, most of which are in the healthcare sector.
The government is currently working on legislation to formalise national standards.
