Spirited Oranje loses to England in World Cup cricket

The Netherlands gave England a fright at their opening match of the cricket World Cup in India on Tuesday with what the BBC described as a ‘spirited’ performance and a ‘brilliant’ display by all-rounder Ryan ten Doeschate

England went on to beat Oranje by six wickets with just eight balls to spare. The final score was England 296 for 4 with the Netherlands on 292 for 6.
After the match, the Dutch captain Peter Borren paid tribute to his side but said he was disappointed they had been unable to secure what would have been a historic victory.
‘We got a good, competitive score and the wicket wasn’t as easy as we made it look,’ Borren told the BBC. ‘We didn’t make them work as hard as we should have done for their runs.’
