Six senators have ‘too many’ other jobs

Six of the 75 senators in the upper house of parliament have more than five other management jobs, according to research by the Socialist Party, quoted by the Volkskrant.

Top performer is Loek Hermans, leader of the conservative liberal VVD in the senate, who has 18 extra jobs. These include the chairmanship of the small firms association MKB Nederland and advisory roles at two separate accountancy practices.
Membership of the senate is not a full time job and senators are paid €2,000 a month for meeting each Tuesday in the month.
The SP introduced legislation in 2009 to limit the number of other jobs senators can have to five. The bill has passed through parliament but has not yet been debated by the upper house.
