Prison not inhumane for tall, overweight man, says judge

A 240 kg, 2.07 metre tall prisoner is not having his human rights infringed because his jail cell is too small, a court in The Hague ruled on Monday.

The man had argued he should serve out his sentence at home under electronic house arrest because his bed is too small and the mattress too thin.
The judge said that while he could imagine prison was not very comfortable for an overweight man, the circumstances he lives in are not inhumane.
The prison has agreed to give the man a better chair.
