Opposition unites to target cabinet’s plans for the handicapped

With two days to go before the provincial elections, left-wing opposition parties have published a joint statement in the Volkskrant newspaper, condemning the government´s policies on assisted work places for the handicapped and welfare benefits.

‘In a civilised country, even at times of cuts, people whose ability to work is limited should not be shut out and condemned to a life of poverty,’ the manifesto states.
The government is planning to cut spending by reorganising benefits and assisted work places for the young handicapped in order to save €2.1bn.
