The economic affairs ministry is launching an investigation into petrol prices, minister Maxime Verhagen said on Friday.

MPs voted earlier this week in favour of a probe. Nevertheless, according to Trouw, Verhagen said he did not think an investigation is necessary.
Earlier studies of petrol prices show that once taxes have been stripped out, there is not much difference between the Netherlands and the rest of Europe, the minister said.
