Let pension funds invest in schools: Labour leader

Pension funds currently invest 90% of their money abroad but should be encouraged to put their cash into schools in the Netherlands, Labour leader Job Cohen said in a speech on Monday night.

By putting pension fund money into school buildings, pupils, teachers and the construction sector would all benefit, Cohen said.
The investment would be administered by a special fund set up to mediate with local authorities, which are responsible for school buildings.
Labour MP Sharon Dijksma said the party would present the plan to education minister Marja van Bijsterveldt and possibly draw up draft legislation.
