KPN considers changing bonus system

Telecoms group KPN is poised to change its system for calculating executive bonuses, the Financieele Dagblad reports on Wednesday.

The paper bases its claim on a report from the company’s remuneration committee, which suggests giving more weight to long-term performance.
‘Bonuses should not lead to executives putting their own self-interest first or taking risks which are not in line with strategy,’ the paper quotes the document as saying.
At the moment, KPN executives have fairly low basic salaries and hefty bonuses which depend on reaching financial targets.
KPN CEO Ad Scheepbouwer has earned €44m over the past 10 years, largely due to options and bonuses, the paper says.
