Drugs checks for new tenants

People who want to rent a house in a housing development in the west of Amsterdam are to be screened for connections to drugs, the Volkskrant reports on Wednesday.

The Dichtersbuurt neighbourhood, said to be one of the most deprived in the country, has high levels of drug-related problems and the city council is trying to improve its reputation.
The ban on people with a history of drugs use is legally sound, lawyers told the paper.
