Compensation for farmers hit by chemical blaze

The farm ministry expects to pay around €1m in compensation to farmers who lost crops because of the massive chemicals fire at Moerdijk near Rotterdam in January.

Around 30 growers are eligible to claim compensation for their winter vegetables, which had to be destroyed because of health fears.
Research showed later that the area close to the fire had not been contaminated but this was too late to save the crops.
