Coffee shops to spread out in Amsterdam

The coffee shops that will be forced to close because the red light district in Amsterdam is being cleaned up could be relocated around the city, the Telegraaf reports on Tuesday.

Amsterdam mayor Eberhard van der Laan is in talks with the district councils Noord, Centrum, Zuidoost and Oost to find suitable locations.
All four councils have said they are willing to have more coffee shops in their area, although they have not yet informed local residents of the decision, the paper says.
If the move goes ahead, it will bring the first coffee shops to the housing complex Bijlmermeer in Zuidoost Amsterdam, says the paper.
