AZ, Willem II pull out of women’s league

AZ (Alkmaar) and Willem II (Tilburg) are pulling out of the Dutch football association’s women’s league.

Both clubs had been part of the initiative to professionalise women’s football since the league launched in 2007.
The KNVB said it hoped to be able to maintain the league with eight clubs and talks are under way with PSV to see if it is interested in taking part.
Football is an extremely popular sport with young Dutch women, second only to hockey.
