Use of wheel clamps reaches record

The use of wheel clamps in Amsterdam reached a record high in 2010, with 462 cars being clamped compared with 103 in 2009.

The wheel clamp was banished in 2008 but made a come-back in 2009 in the fight against non-payers of parking fines, reports the Telegraaf. Since then, the clamps have been used in Amsterdam for cars where the owner has five or more outstanding fines.
