New Year damage reaches €10m

Damage to private property reached €10m during the New Year celebrations, the Dutch insurance association said.

Last year the damage total reached €12m. The association said the drop – for the third year in a row – is due to zero tolerance policing.
Earlier, insurance company Central Beheer Achmea said three schools had gone up in flames during the festivities, at a cost of €3m.
In 2007/2008, 22 schools were hit by fire.
