Machiavelli prize for Bert van Marwijk

The Machiavelli prize 2010, given annually for ‘exceptional communication qualities’, goes to the Dutch national football coach Bert van Marwijk.

The jury said 2010 was marked by the polarisation between people and political parties. It had therefore decided to award the prize to someone who created unity.
Van Marwijk brought the national team together and guarded that unity with his trustworthy way of communicating, the jury said.
Oranje is one of the top ranked football teams in the world.
