Fewer speeding tickets because of system failures

Last year’s early winter led to a decline in the number of speeding tickets because so many overhead monitoring systems broke down in the frost, the Telegraaf reports on Thursday.

In addition, the monitors are often turned off because of road works, the public prosecution department said.
The department was responding to the news that the total number of speeding tickets issued last year was down 490,000 on 2009.
In total, 11 million speeding tickets were issued last year. Around half of them were for speeding in built-up areas and nearly 27% for driving too fast on motorways.
