The Netherlands is in 12th position overall in a global ranking of registered cancer cases but fourth in terms of breast cancer, according to research by the World Cancer Research Fund.

The high Dutch position, with 287 cases of cancer per 100,000 of the population, is partly due to good diagnosis and registration, the researchers said.
At the same time, the Dutch are heavy smokers and drinkers in global terms and obesity is on the increase – all contributory factors to developing cancer.
Denmark tops the cancer list with 326 cases of cancer per 100,000 followed by Ireland, Australia and New Zealand.
