Trade union to set up ‘domestic help’ employers organisation

The FNV trade union federation is launching a campaign to unite private individuals who employ cleaners, freelance care workers and other home help, Trouw reports on Monday.

The aim of the domestic help employers association is to develop a ‘decent’ pay structure and ensure workers are covered by social security and other benefits.
The FNV says it is important to mobilise employers in order to increase pressure on politicians to improve the lot of freelance and ‘illegal’ cleaners.
In addition, households should realise the benefits of formally employing domestic help so, for example, they can get a replacement if their regular cleaner is sick, the union said.
