Three day postal delivery strike starts

TNT postal sorting staff and delivery workers began a three-day strike shortly before midnight on Tuesday.

They are angry at TNT’s plans to cut some 11,000 jobs, including 2,800 compulsory redundancies.
TNT revised down the compulsory job loss total from 3,100 to 2,800 on Tuesday in an effort to head off the strike.
The strike is supported by the CNV and FNV unions, but the BVPP, which represents some 5,000 of the 20,000 sorting office staff, is not backing the action. It believes the job loss total cannot be reduced any more.
