Provinces call again for dune deer cull

Noord and Zuid-Holland provincial authorities are calling for a number of deer in the dune area north of The Hague to be shot to reduce damage to crops and the risk of accidents.

Amsterdam city council owns much of the dune reserves and has always refused to give permission for the cull. A city council spokesman said the council will reply to the provinces next year.
Some 1,200 deer roam the dune area between the seaside resorts of Zandvoort and Noordwijk.
The national park is used as a water catchment area for the capital and is home to a large population of fallow and roe deer.
