Police seize 250 cloned cars

The police have removed at least 250 cloned cars from the roads this year, the AD reports on Thursday.

A cloned car is a car which has been stolen and given the number plate and chassis number of another identical vehicle. These cars are then sold on to new owners who only realise something is wrong when they get unexpected traffic fines.
The thieves often visit private car owners whom they have traced on the internet to find out crucial information about chassis numbers, police spokesman Henk Graafland told the paper.
In some cases, they even steal maintenance logs during a test drive.
