Freezing rain makes driving difficult

There are dangerous conditions on many roads on Sunday following freezing rain in coastal regions on Saturday, the ANWB motoring organisation said.

Speed restrictions have been introduced on parts of the A2, A12 and the A16 because of the icy road surface.
December 26 is traditionally a busy period on the roads, as people visit friends and family or out-of-town shopping centres. Last year, there were 160 km of jams at this time of the year, the ANWB said.
Meanwhile, the A1 remains closed between Muiderberg and Eemes so engineers can carry out emergency repairs because of damage caused by the heavy frost. The road is expected to reopen at around 2100 hours.
Slippery conditions causes some long delays on Saturday. On the A12 between The Hague and Utrecht, there was very slow traffic for 16 km because of the ice.
Trains
Dutch Rail (NS) is continuing to run reduced winter services and says international trains are having some problems because of heavy snow elsewhere in Europe.
According to the KNMI weather bureau, on Sunday and Monday it will remain chilly with temperatures close to zero during the day and light frosts at night.
And the bureau warns of more freezing rain in Zuid-Holland, Zeeland and Utrecht on Sunday.
