Fewer illegal firework seizures
Police have seized over 80,000 kg of illegal fireworks in the run-up to Friday night’s New Year celebrations, down on previous years. Five years ago, police confiscated around a million kg.
Public prosecution spokesman Gustaaf Biezeveld told the NRC the reduction shows the tough approach to importing illegal fireworks introduced in 2005 is having an effect.
