Feed garden birds, say bird protection groups

The bird protection society Vogelbescherming has urged people with gardens to provide food for garden birds. Small birds in particular are hard hit by prolongued periods of frost and snow.

Nature reserve officials say there are no problems yet with food shortages for larger mammals, which have all built up winter supplies of fat.
But in Limburg and Zeeland, a ban on hunting hares, pheasants, rabbits and wood pigeons has been introduced.
