Dutchman arrested in Chile for 1997 double murder

A 36-year-old Dutchman has been arrested in Chile in connection with the murder of a retired Dutch couple in 1997. The man was on the point of travelling to the US when arrested, according to local media.

The couple, Henk Opentij aged 79 and 73-year-old Mary Run, was found dead in their home in November 1997. Their throats had been cut and they had multiple stab wounds. Run’s bag had been searched but the killers left 600 guilders in cash untouched.
The case was reopened last year after a tv crime show revealed DNA from two suspected killers had been found.
