Central bank warns insurers over motoring insurance fees

Motoring insurance has fallen so much in price that the financial position of some insurance companies may be under threat, according to the Dutch central bank.

In a letter to insurance companies published by Nos television, the bank said it is concerned about ‘a worrying situation’. And officials will be contacting insurance companies where it feels premiums do not cover costs to discuss the situation, the letter states.
The arrival of new providers and internet-based companies has forced down prices sharply, Nos says.
According to research by MoneyView, standard insurance for a 26-year-old has gone down 12% in price over the past two years. And the cheapest car insurance product available is now 30% below the price of the best buy two years ago.
