50 kph speed limit on many roads

The transport ministry has imposed a 50 kph speed limit on a number of main roads nationwide because of the slippery conditions.

‘The roads look clear but the low temperatures mean it is slippery in many places,’ a spokesman told news agency ANP.
The new speed limit currently affects the A2, A6, A8, A9, A20, A27 and A58 but may be altered according to local conditions.
Accidents
A number of accidents caused by cars and lorries driving too fast led to delays on some roads on Monday morning.
‘Be responsible, adapt your speed,’ the spokesman said.
Salt
Meanwhile, local authority salt supplies to keep the roads clear are running low, the transport ministry said.
By Sunday, the department itself had spread 77,000 tonnes of salt on the main road network and says it’s own supplies are holding up.
But local councils who are responsible for clearing minor roads are reporting that their stocks are dwindling.
