Wikileaks memo confirms US nuclear weapons are in Holland

Monday 29 November 2010

A memo from the US ambassador to Germany which has been placed online by Wikileaks appears to confirm that US nuclear weapons are kept on Dutch soil.

In a discussion about the withdrawal of US weapons from Europe, the memo states: 'a withdrawal of nuclear weapons from Germany and perhaps from Belgium and the Netherlands could make it very difficult politically for Turkey to maintain its own stockpile.'

It was written by US ambassador Philip Murphy in November 2009.

The government has never confirmed that nuclear weapons are kept on Dutch soil.

Socialist Party MP Harry van Bommel called on the government to now stop being so secretive and admit to their presence.

According to the Volkskrant, Wikileaks has 3,021 memos sent by the US embassy in The Hague but these have not yet been published.

Seems that NL is actually just another US state, that is almost completely under the control of the US, which seems a bit sad to me. what happened to this once greatest maritime nation of the world? what happened? I only wish that i had come into contact with more educated NLer's before I ever moved here, would have saved me a lot of trouble.

This is not really new news, just forgotten , in fact The Netherlands have huge contracts
(emphasis on the 'con')with the US, and now more than ever, are in a dangerous and predictably volatile situation as they gamble with the lives of their troops still there, in Afghanistan, .

I wonder what for we need nuclear weapons in our territory. Besides, to become a target for other nuclear weapons and terrorist attacks.

Or are we expecting an invasion from our neighbors? From which of them, Belgium, Germany or UK?

Who agrees this situation without knowledge of citizens, and without a referendum so that we can speak out in democracy, in this crucial issue (is there any one more important than danger for life?), is a real traitor to our country and democracy.

What tangled webs we weave. lol.

@ zenplus

the nuclear weapons still in our country are remnants of the cold war. the US gave us acces to those weapons under the NATO weapon sharing program in case we ever went to war with the Soviet Union. having nuclear weapons doesn't make us a target for terrorists and neither is it going to get us nuked... if anything it scares off a potential agressor.

I thought the whole idea of the nuclear deterrent was that other countries know you've got them. Hmm, wonder how that's supposed to work if you've got them secretly?

Then again, "mutually assured destruction" was supposed to make sure nobody uses them - but nobody (except Israel, of course - secretly again!) in the Middle East is allowed to have them. Hmm again.

When holland gave up control of it's own money to join the banking union (EU) it basically gave up the Netherlands territorial soverignty. Once they have joined NATO the Netherlands gave up it's military sovereignty. I have seen the Dutch military training in the USA. It's time to wake up people.

Wiki-leaks founder should be tried for war crimes.
He has compromised numerous human rights activists in Afghanistan and East Timor to name a few. Activists who have exposed human rights violations, tried to get girls in schools, told diplomats issues in confidence, who are now targets for assassinations with their names and GPS locations.
The sad news is that Obama does not care. He comes from a Daniel Ellsberg hero worshiping type upbringing.
God help the West.

''When holland gave up control of it's own money to join the banking union (EU) it basically gave up the Netherlands territorial soverignty''.

So the best thing for USA economy, would be a different Central Bank, and a different currency for each state, is not it?

EU and Euro currency is the worst nightmare for those economic powers which are trying to sink European welfare and transform it into semi economic slavery. Even it is a worst nightmare for neo-nazis and fascists which are trying to isolate every country to reach power and murder European liberties, as happened in 1930s.

"It's time to wake up people." Right.

Our leaders and advisors around the globe, should not be doing anything that they cannot disclose publicly. This is the only thing that will keep them honest and acting with international integrity. Apparently they are not able to act this way on their own - they must be forced to, sadly. I am ashamed of the reports coming from US ambassadors and others in power in the US. These are the people that must be prosecuted, shooting the messenger is not going to help. The repeated lack of integrity, strength, understanding and transparency in our leadership all over the world is very very alarming. This is absolutely our biggest problem.

It's wonderful that those who call for 'Freedom of Speech' whenever certain right-wing politicians are mentioned, are now calling for Censorship when the media do their job correctly for once and report facts rather than biased commentary!
