Warhol’s pink queen Beatrix up for auction

Andy Warhol’s pink portrait of queen Beatrix is coming under the hammer at Christie’s auction house in Amsterdam on November 30.

The portrait, expected to raise up to €500,000, is one of four Warhol portraits of queens made in 1985. The series, named Reigning Queens, also featured the queens of Denmark, Swaziland and Britain.
The portraits often come up for sale as lithographs but the painted version of Beatrix is very rare, according to news agency ANP.
