VVD may opt to raise pension age to 67, without support from the PVV

The VVD Liberal party is not ruling out increasing the state pension age from 65 to 67, rather than 66 as agreed with Geert Wilders’ PVV, parliamentary party leader Stef Blok said at the weekend.

The VVD CDA cabinet agreement includes a commitment to increase the state pension age to 66 and to link further increases to life expectancy. Wilders, who favoured a no-change policy during the election campaign, now supports the one year increase but has said he will not back a further increase.
In an interview with website nu.nl, Blok said the cabinet could turn to other parties for support. ‘It is quite possible that we say to the PvdA and D66 ‘do you want to go a step further?,’ he said. ‘Then the second increase would take place without the PVV.’
The PVV has agreed to support the government in its efforts to cut spending by €18bn in return for tougher immigration rules.
