Unilever adapts business model, aims to halve environmental impact

Food to detergent group Unilever on Monday unveiled a plan to ´decouple´ its future business growth from its environmental impact.

The plan commits the Anglo Dutch company to sourcing 100% of its agricultural raw materials sustainably, halving its environmental footprint and boosting the health and wellbeing of one billion people, the company said in a statement.
‘We have ambitious plans to grow the company. But growth at any price is not viable,’ CEO Paul Polman said. ‘We have to develop new ways of doing business which will ensure that our growth does not come at the expense of the world’s diminishing natural resources.’
In order to halve the company’s impact on the environment, Polman has set 50 targets to be reached over the next 10 years.
