Students, volunteers to run government financial advice shops

The finance ministry is to start experimenting with high street ‘money shops’ where passersby can go for independent advice on financial issues, the Telegraaf reports on Thursday.

The advice will be free and the staff – made up of volunteers and students – will not recommend specific products to consumers, finance minister Jan Kees de Jager said on Thursday.
But consumers will, for example, be able to find out how much they can borrow for a mortgage, De Jager said.
The experiment will consist of five shops in five big cities. It will be funded largely by the private sector, the paper said.
