Prime minister in Germany, then heads to Nato summit

Prime minister Mark Rutte is in Germany for talks with chancellor Angela Merkel on Friday morning. The talks will focus on developments in the EU budget debate, the Telegraaf reports.

On Thursday the prime minister met German president Christian Wulff in The Hague. After the meeting, Rutte told reporters he understood German concerns about the relationship between his minority government and the anti-Islam PVV.
‘I think those concerns will disappear when you see it is a normal government which follows policy… and that we are looking for alliances with other parties in parliament in a pragmatic way,’ he said.
‘We do not agree about one subject, and that is Islam. We are so divided on this that it is impossible to form a formal coalition [with the PVV],’ he said.
Nato
Later on Friday, Rutte will head to the Nato summit in Lisbon, where the future of the alliance’s mission in Afghanistan is up for discussion.
The Dutch government has decided to investigate the possibility of sending police trainers to Afghanistan to work under Nato auspices. The Dutch pulled out their military mission in August, despite pressure from Nato officials and the US to stay.
However, it is still unclear if there is majority support in parliament for a training mission.
